Every Saturday throughout the year, Zurich's Helvetiaplatz becomes for a day a secondhand shopping haven. Deemed the largest and best flea market in Switzerland, Kanzlei Flohmarkt has become a little notorious for news of the odd seller camping out over night to beat even the earliest arrivals of other vendors to secure the best pitch.
Kanzlei Flohmarkt is located centrally in the city and therefore very easy to get to. It is just a short walk from Langstrasse and accessed by Helvetiaplatz tram station. There is a children’s playground adjacent to the market stalls, which can be a great distraction for kids while adults get their noses stuck into the wares.
It is the diversity of goods on offer that is one of the reasons that Kanzlei Flohmarkt is such a popular market. On the busiest days there can be up to 400 vendors clamoring for space! Kanzlei Flohmarkt features vintage jewelry collections, furniture pieces, bicycles, books, clothing and numerous other kinds of collectible antiques. Goods can be on the pricey side, but haggling is welcomed so it is possible to secure a bargain, especially during the earliest hours of the day.
Kanzlei Flohmarkt is open year round, whatever the weather. The stalls are not under any significant cover but this rarely puts off visitors to this famous flea market. Due to the central location, Kanzlei Flohmarkt is surrounded by many cafes and food stalls within the market itself. Therefore a breakfast is in easy reach after bargains have been found in the early hours of the day.
A visit to Kanzlei Flohmarkt is guaranteed to be enjoyable. It has a hectic but incredibly friendly feel to it, and shoppers are sure to find something worth buying, wherever their interests lie.
