Brocante Markt Heusden

Brocante Markt Heusden has the perfect location in the middle of the fortified city of Heusden, which is straight out of the 17th century. The city recently renovated these historic fortifications and the majority of the buildings within are now listed as monuments. It grew around one of the oldest water castles in Northwest Europe and was one of the first Dutch cities surrounded by a wall. What better place to hold an antique and vintage market? Shoppers and collectors are immersed in the past from the moment they enter the town, which is the perfect inspirational setting to shop for historical souvenirs!

Taking place just once a month excluding the very coldest winter months, Brocante Markt Heusden is always an event that is looked forward to. The stalls are set up in the medieval castle square, a spacious and completely pedestrianized area. Around 50 different vendors set up their stalls here coming from across the Netherlands and neighboring European countries.

Upon arriving on the premises, one can sense that this market is held by antique enthusiasts and professionals, as the antiques sold at the Brocante Markt Heusden are nicely varied, of high quality, and are displayed with refinement. The vendors are very creative with their exhibitions and utilize tables, small extensions, the surrounding floors, and sometimes the treasures themselves to display their antiques in an artful way. One feels that an effort has been made not only in the search for exquisite objects, but also in their presentation. When the weather is good, it almost feels like walking in a brocante in Provence!

Visitors can expect to see vintage suitcases, small items of furniture, decorative items for indoors and out, vases, crockery, glassware, silverware, mannequins, clothing, and the occasional local hand-craft stall. It really feels like a community coming together to celebrate the vintage and antique collectibles in such historical surroundings.

Vendors at Brocante Markt Heusden are spaced perfectly around the castle square, each with a tented roof that can shield their treasures, and the shoppers, from any less-than-perfect weather conditions. The whole market is so well organized and no matter how busy it gets there are never any frayed tempers or grumpy faces. Visitors can take the Brocante Bus for just €1 to reach the flea market, so of course, the friendly atmosphere begins on the bus, and shopping-buddies are made before arriving at the market!
