Stichting Vlooienmarkt Bakkeveen

The Stichting Vlooienmarkt Bakkeveen is one of the largest open-air markets in the Northern Netherlands. By now, it is an integral part of the market scene of the Netherlands and welcomes more than 500 traders to set up stalls and sell their wares. When the weather is fine, this flea market sees 1000s of visitors browsing around, searching for bargains and antique treasures. It has grown year after year and does not show any signs of slowing down yet!

The majority of the exhibitors at Stichting Vlooienmarkt Bakkeveen come from the north of the Netherlands, though many also make their way across the borders from Germany and Belgium. Bakkeveen itself is so easy to find, where the three large areas of Friesland, Groningen, and Drenthe come together. It is located just off of one of the main roads, on the edge of a built-up area backing onto a recreational area, extending into nature. The setting is perfect, helping to craft the cozy and relaxed atmosphere at this popular flea.

Stall-holders at the Stichting Vlooienmarkt Bakkeveen start to arrive from 5 am on the morning of the market day. Sometimes, the keenest bargain hunters arrive at a similar time too, though the official opening time is 7 am! Though there are hundreds of vendors, the area is arranged in such a way that visitors do not have to walk too far to see everything on offer here. Each vendor has its own distinct area, so there is no clutter or overlapping stalls.

There is a wide range of goods up for grabs at the Stichting Vlooienmarkt Bakkeveen. Quality antique and vintage items can easily be found with a little bit of searching. Visitors will see awesome old toys, vintage tools, clothing, advertising memorabilia, military items, sporting goods, furniture, artwork, telephones, radios, decorative items, and everything else that you might expect to find in someone’s attic. This flea is only open until lunchtime, so it is best to get there early.
