Dirty Janes, located at the southern end of Bowral, New South Wales, is a large antique market selling all types of antiques, vintage items, clothing, furniture and collectibles from Australia and overseas. With over 1600 square metres of covered space, Dirty Janes Bowral is the largest covered market in the Southern Highlands.
Dirty Janes is named after a young Irish woman, Jane Dumphry. After a run-in with the law, she was transported to the colony of New South Wales in 1840. Nicknamed "Dirty Jane" because of the muddy state in which she arrived in Gundagai, NSW, she turned her life around and built a successful business in New South Wales by buying and trading local items.
Dirty Janes' original premises in Bowral underwent a major renovation in 2016, transforming the facade and interior of the building on the corner of Bong Bong and Banyette Streets (formerly The Emporium) into the landmark building known as The Acre.
With 90 individually styled stalls to explore, there is so much to discover. From handmade jewelry to vintage clothing, antique furniture, vintage toys, antique mirrors, books, vintage records and cameras, there is something for everyone. You'll have to walk around 3 or 4 times to see everything. As you walk by, something else is caught out of the corner of your eye.
As you walk the aisles of the store, you are transported back to a time when furniture was made with care and quality. Lamps, glassware and tableware had an elegance that their owners were proud to display not only for their guests, but for themselves. Browse the Militaria section and you will be transported back to a time when individuals were rewarded for their actions, not just for their presence. The faint smell of sawdust draws you to an old workbench covered with chisels, planes, and hand drills.
The friendly and helpful staff will be happy to help you find the item you are looking for. If the item is not in stock, you can add it to your "wish list" and be notified when it becomes available. Dirty Janes Bowral allows you to experience the Southern Highlands while discovering the art of salvaging fascinating old items.
In 2020, Dirty Janes Canberra opened its doors to the delight of local antique lovers. The store houses 90 exhibitors in a fully converted 21,500 square foot warehouse with a magical array of new and reclaimed furniture, home goods, home accessories, fashion, art, clothing, jewelry, garden items and vintage finishes.
