If you want to discover another side of Munich a little further from the beaten track, head straight to the Kavalleriemarkt. Twice a week, the south end of the Olympic Park is bustling with visitors and vendors of all ages thanks to the flea market that takes place there.

The special feature of the Kavalleriemarkt is above all its diversity. Among the many goods on offer are mainly antiques. New items are rather less represented. However, this does not mean that antique junk cannot also be valuable and of high quality. Those interested for example in the art of earlier epochs, antique cutlery, sculptures, porcelain, or other collectibles, will find exactly what they are looking for at the Kavalleriemarkt. Another major theme of the Kavalleriemarkt is recycled art, which contributes significantly to the charm of the market and makes it something unique.

At every corner, there are true marvels to discover, specially made by the market’s operator. This art includes, for example, the numerous pennants made of old, colorful fabric scraps, giant lanterns made of fabric, or bicycles that have been converted into hanging decorations. As a special extra, a night flea market is held there once a month from 17:00 to 22:30. Except for the fact that it’s night, the attractions are the same, and of course, the fun is not lost in the darkness.

As a visitor to the Kavalleriemarkt, all problems are easily forgotten. The colorful booths, tents, and artists, and last but not least, of course, the merchandise on offer, will take you to another universe. In addition, recycled art provides a completely different view of some things and shows that many things are not as worthless as they might seem. The Kavalleriemarkt encourages handicrafts and, of course, more careful handling of used objects and thus fulfills much more than just the purpose of buying and selling.

Although located somewhat outside of Munich’s city center, the Kavalleriemarkt is easy to reach by car or public transportation, and several nearby restaurants and sights also provide another place to go.

"Reserving flights 8 to 9 months in advance helps me manage my airfare expenses. Even in the best of times, many of the markets I follow in France don't publish their plans that far in advance. Fleamapket provides the newest information, well before I can find it online."
