Twice a month, Brisbane's Reddacliff Place is flooded with an army of suitcase carriers ready to unload their vintage wares. Known as the Suitcase Rummage, this market provides a platform for vintage hunters to fill their closets, find a bargain and take home a beautiful collectible. Anyone can sign up to sell their wares, making this a truly random market where anything goes.
There is a myriad of original and vintage artwork to admire as well as thousands upon thousands of vintage clothing options. Clothing is the main focus here at Suitcase Rummage, but there is so much more. Vendors bring all kinds of housewares and bric-a-brac of varying value, so whatever you are looking for, you are likely to find it.
The Suitcase Rummage was created with local community spirit, simplicity and beauty in mind. A place to combine people's love and passion for all things vintage while supporting new designers and entrepreneurs. Partnering with Brisbane City Council, who were looking for new and interesting ways to utilize public spaces, the first event was born and received rave reviews. Since 2010, Suitcase Rummage has grown into a major event with over 150 stalls and thousands of visitors.
The Suitcase Rummage is an event where anything can be sold or traded, and prices can be haggled over. Visitors are encouraged to bring unwanted ornaments or last season's fashion to sell or trade. Regular vendors attend the event, and the website provides information about the vendors and their offerings. Handmade and upcycled products are always available, making the event an ideal destination for those interested in kitschy artwork and new designs. Music and literature fans can find classic albums and vintage paperbacks at the event.
If you're interested in selling your own suitcase full of items, you can register your interest before the event for $10. This registration fee is a small investment compared to the potential sales you can make. More information is available on the event website.
In addition to the regular twice-monthly event at Reddacliff Place, Suitcase Rummage also has events in Melbourne and at a number of festivals throughout the year. Pop-up events at vintage and community festivals are common, so keep an eye on their social media pages to keep up with their next plans. If you are in the market for pre-owned, upcycled, handmade and collectibles, Suitcase Rummage is the new and trendy place to go.
