Brocante Markt Heusden is perfectly located in the heart of the fortified town of Heusden, which dates back to the 17th century. The town has recently renovated these historic fortifications and most of the buildings inside are now listed. It grew up around one of the oldest water castles in northwestern Europe and was one of the first Dutch cities to be walled in. What better place to hold an antique and vintage market than in such picturesque surroundings? Shoppers and collectors are immersed in the past from the moment they enter the town, which is the perfect inspirational setting for shopping for historical souvenirs!
Held only once a month, except during the coldest winter months, Brocante Markt Heusden is always a much anticipated event. The stalls are set up on the medieval castle square, a spacious and completely pedestrianized area. Approximately 50 different vendors from all over the Netherlands and neighboring European countries set up their stalls.
As soon as you arrive on the premises, you can feel that this market is organized by antique enthusiasts and professionals, because the antiques sold at the Brocante Markt Heusden are very varied, of high quality and presented with refinement. The dealers are very creative with their displays and use tables, small extensions, the surrounding floors and sometimes the treasures themselves to display their antiques in an artistic way. You can tell that a lot of effort has gone into not only finding exquisite objects, but also presenting them. When the weather is good, it is almost like walking through a brocante in Provence!
Visitors can expect to see vintage suitcases, small pieces of furniture, indoor and outdoor decorative items, vases, dishes, glassware, silverware, mannequins, clothing, and the occasional local craft stall. It truly feels like a community coming together to celebrate vintage and antique collectibles in such a historic setting.
The vendors at Brocante Markt Heusden are perfectly spaced around the castle square, each with a tented roof to protect their treasures and shoppers from any less-than-perfect weather conditions. The whole market is so well organized, and no matter how busy it gets, there are never any frayed tempers or grumpy faces. Visitors can take the Brocante Bus for just €1 to get to the flea market, so of course the friendly atmosphere starts on the bus and shopping buddies are made before arriving at the market!
