Arthur Swallow Fairs are well known throughout the UK for their wonderful shows of antiques, collectables, upcycled junk and second hand. The first and last of their annual shows are held in May and September at the Decorative Home & Salvage Show at Ripley Castle.
Ripley Castle is a fourteenth century stately home just outside Harrogate in North Yorkshire. Situated on the edge of the picturesque Yorkshire Dales National Park, Ripley Castle's stunning location provides the perfect backdrop for the Decorative Home & Salvage Show.
Although many of the dealers at the Decorative Home & Salvage Show at Ripley Castle are regulars, the organisers are always on the lookout for new products, skills and collections to showcase and entertain visitors with original pieces each time. As the show is only held twice a year, there is certainly not enough time for any of the merchandise to become familiar, and those who make sure to visit this show whenever it is on are guaranteed fresh, custom-made and new pieces.
In addition to antiques and collectibles, visitors to the Decorative Home & Salvage Show will find some 80 carefully selected dealers from all over Europe exhibiting the best in decorative and architectural antiques, reclaimed and salvaged materials, garden furniture and statuary, restored and upcycled furniture, period home furnishings and equipment, furnishings and industrial pieces put to a variety of new and intriguing uses, furniture, tools and too many curiosities to mention.
The layout of these events is in the style of a shopping mall, dotted with pretty white tents and plenty of places to sit and rest weary shopping feet - the atmosphere is cheerful with an element of luxury.
Anyone looking for inspiration on how to redecorate their own home or how to make use of seemingly useless objects should definitely visit the Decorative Home & Salvage Show at Ripley Castle. The ideas are endless, and the vendors are happy to chat and share their knowledge. Whatever junk is lying around your home, you can be sure that someone at the show has made something useful or beautiful out of it!
