Located halfway between Dallas and Austin, Waco feels like a provincial town in comparison. But what sets this place apart from other larger cities in Texas, is the surprising density of quality antique and vintage shops. They are nicely spread throughout the city, though there is a definite congregation in the more central areas, closer to the Brazos River. Waco has long been a favored shopping destination by those in the antiquing know and any collector traveling to Texas should definitely plan a trip to this city.

Lasalle Avenue in Waco is one location where a number of fabulous vintage shops are found. Junque in the Trunk leads the way, with a balanced mix of vintage, shabby, antique, world market, and one-of-a-kind finds, along with local handmade items. They have been voted the Best Antique Store in Waco for the past 6 years so obviously is a hot spot for antique aficionados. The Junky Monkey is further down the street and this turquoise building with painted murals on the side cannot be missed. This store is full to the brim with an incredible selection of vintage and antique items, from furniture to clothing. La Salle Shoppes is towards the end of the street and is more of an antique mall, with eight separate showrooms and 45 individual vendors trading from here.

Another set of antique stores can be found on Austin Avenue in Waco. So many stores are here you could easily spend a day just making your way down this street! Sparrow is an 800-square-foot antique mall with 60 different vendors, though they are always looking for more. This mall also hosts workshops and classes on different aspects of antique restoration and repair. Two Blind Mice is a slightly smaller store with wonderful antiques and incredibly friendly owners. Olive Door Imports specializes in antique furniture pieces from Europe. They also curate artwork and other antiques for their customers.

There are many other stores and locations to explore in Waco than just these two streets. Whatever kind of antique or vintage items you collect, they can be found somewhere in this city. It is also the perfect shopping destination for anyone looking to add a unique item of beauty to their home.

"Reserving flights 8 to 9 months in advance helps me manage my airfare expenses. Even in the best of times, many of the markets I follow in France don't publish their plans that far in advance. Fleamapket provides the newest information, well before I can find it online."
Nicolas Martin
