Most of the exhibitors at Stichting Vlooienmarkt Bakkeveen come from the north of the Netherlands, but many also cross the border from Germany and Belgium. Bakkeveen itself is easy to find at the intersection of the three major regions of Friesland, Groningen and Drenthe. It is located just off one of the main roads, on the edge of a built-up area that opens onto a recreational area that extends into the countryside. The setting is perfect and contributes to the cozy and relaxed atmosphere of this popular flea market.
The stallholders of Stichting Vlooienmarkt Bakkeveen start arriving at 5 am on the morning of the market. Sometimes the most eager bargain hunters arrive at a similar time, although the official opening time is 7 am! Although there are hundreds of vendors, the area is laid out so that visitors do not have to walk too far to see everything. Each vendor has its own area, so there is no clutter or overlapping booths.
The Stichting Vlooienmarkt Bakkeveen offers a wide range of goods. Quality antique and vintage items are easy to find with a little searching. Visitors will see great old toys, vintage tools, clothing, advertising memorabilia, military items, sporting goods, furniture, artwork, telephones, radios, decorative items and anything else you might expect to find in someone's attic. This flea is only open until noon, so get there early.
