Woolly Mammoth Antiques and Oddities is a small shop located on a busy street in Chicago, Illinois, and if you are not careful, you could walk right past it and not realize what you are missing. Open since 2010, it is run by a couple with a love for all things old, weird, and slightly creepy. They were inspired to turn this love into a business while on their honeymoon following the trail of Vlad the Impaler. The store has grown in popularity over the years and has a reputation as one of Chicago's must-visit places.
There are few places where you can find a stuffed badger and a giant Millennium Falcon on the same shelf, but that perfectly describes Woolly Mammoth Antiques and Oddities. You might also be lucky enough to see original E.T. and He-Man toys next to pickled pig fetuses, alligator lamps, Atari 2600 games, and an anchor pulled from a Lake Michigan shipwreck. Other types of treasures found here include taxidermy, anatomy items, medical equipment, books, bones, charts, maps, tools, industrial salvage, and more!
As you might expect, it is often the stories behind the types of antiques found at Woolly Mammoth Antiques and Oddities that are the most fascinating. Fortunately, the owners of the store are well versed in the history behind certain items and all things supernatural and creepy! Therefore, even though the store is not that large, it is easy to lose a lot of time here. Every item inside is equally fascinating. Of course, not every item would be welcome in many homes, but that makes a visit to the store all the more necessary. Where else can you see, touch and learn about such unique antiques?
